    This introduction welcomes students to the field of media and communication studies, its social significance and its demanding nature which prepares students for pressures encountered in the world of work. The introduction explains the book’s purpose as study skills resource designed as a student’s daily companion and a reference guide in class. It explains key components covered in the book including writing essays, group work and presentations and how students can get the most out of their studies and how to plan and organize their time. Two main themes are highlighted: writing and the general skills that help students to navigate all kinds of assessments and learning techniques. The book’s emphasis on simple tips, resources and simple and powerful pieces of advice is foregrounded and how it can be read in any order or jumping between topics.
